A private villa in Al Wakrah, on Qatar's south coast, faced in bright white Omani stone. Where our classical projects lean on carved columns and cornices, this one is deliberately more contemporary — clean ashlar coursing, bold deep-projecting cornices, stepped parapets and crisp modern window reveals — with the whole calm white composition lifted by a single hand-carved mashrabiya screen. Auckland supplied the stone, cut every panel to size on our CNC line, and dry-fixed the elevations end to end.
A modern white Omani stone facade
The elevations are clad in bright white Omani stone laid in a clean, large-format ashlar bond, wrapped around a crisp geometric massing of stepped planes and deep corners. Instead of applied classical ornament, the design carries itself on proportion, bold deep-projecting cornices and the strong shadow lines they throw in the Gulf sun. Omani stone is a dense, bright grade that keeps its uniform tone and stands up well to Al Wakrah's coastal heat, so the villa reads as a single calm, prestigious white composition from the street.
Bold cornices and a carved mashrabiya accent
The character of this facade comes from two things done well. First, the deep, multi-stepped projecting cornices and the moulded reveals around the openings — every profile cut on our CNC line to one consistent section, so the detailing lines up cleanly across the stepped elevations. Second, a single hand-carved mashrabiya screen: a pierced stone panel worked in an intricate Islamic star-and-geometric pattern, set as a deliberate accent against the plain white field. It is the one traditional gesture in an otherwise modern building — and exactly the kind of carved, pierced stonework few contractors in Qatar can produce in-house.
Dry-fixed for the Al Wakrah coast
Al Wakrah's coastal setting brings salt and humidity on top of the Gulf heat, so the stone is mechanically dry-fixed with stainless steel — each panel and every carved element moves independently, so thermal expansion is absorbed instead of cracking the elevation — and the fixing keeps the large ashlar fields dead flat, which is where a clean modern facade is won or lost. Because Auckland imported, fabricated and installed the whole job, one accountable team carried it from imported block through CNC fabrication to the last fixed panel.
